The media is getting excited again over our rapidly disappearing seaice which blew past the 2007 record and bettered it by 500,000 squarekilometes to hit a total of 3,400,000 sq kilometers.
In fact my prediction of 2007, before the record was particularlyapparent then has been powerfully confirmed as the Arctic sea ice hasnow clearly entered its terminal stage of breakup and collapse. Itis quite reasonable to expect almost all winter ice to melt out eachsummer well before the end of the decade.
We also have hard confirmation that this has been brought about by awarm water distribution shift into the North Atlantic from theSouthern Hemisphere. Understand that this has nothing to do fromimagined global warming or CO2 production.
The media of course will continue to babble about the end of theworld as we know it.
It is quite plausible though that we may return to Bronze Ageconditions. We have certainly seen a recovery of Medieval Warm Spellconditions. This all fits well with a thousand year cycle broughtabout possibly by a strong variation in the flux of cold waters intothe Deep in the Antarctic. That is the one thing that I can identifyas having the real power to do all this. Major aspects of thesewaters are in fact changing. Whatever is happening, the circumpolarcurrent is drawing a lot less heat and the ice is expanding there.
The result has been to dump surplus heat into the north Atlantic forthe past forty years or so. This has now destroyed or weakened allthe multiyear ice in the Arctic setting up the present collapse.

Now he and hiscolleagues have to travel more than 1,000 kilometres north into theBeaufort Sea to even find the ice.
And it’s nothinglike the thick, impenetrable ice of Arctic lore.
This year the ice is“rotten” practically all the way to the North Pole, says Barber,a veteran Arctic researcher and director of the Centre for EarthObservation Science at the University of Manitoba.
“The multi-year ice,what’s left of it, is so heavily decayed that it’s really nolonger a barrier to transportation,” he says, explaining how meltponds have left much of the ice looking like Swiss cheese.
“You could havetaken a ship right across the North Pole this year,” says Barber,whose research team was involved in a 36-day research cruise in theBeaufort on a Canadian Coast Guard ship.
The Arctic ice lossthis summer shattered the record set in 2007. It hit the low pointlast weekend, covering 3.41 million square kilometers, or 24 percent, of the Arctic Ocean, according to the U.S. National Snowand Ice Data Center, which has been tracking the ice with satellitessince the late 1970s.
This year’s minimumis nearly 50-per -cent lower than the 1979 to 2000 average.
While the ice lossdocumented by the NSIDC is record-setting, Barber says the reality inthe Arctic is ever worse.
The U.S. numbers areabout “a 15-per-cent over-estimation of how much ice is actuallythere,” says Barber. That’s because satellites have troublediscerning ice conditions, he says, and will count heavily decayedice as solid.
Regardless of who isdoing the counting, he and other scientists consider the ice lossremarkable. And they say the impact will be felt far beyond theArctic.
“It’s a globallysignificant change on our planet,” Barber said in an interview.
Many expect the Arcticcould be “seasonally ice free” in the summer within a decade.
“I’d say 2020,plus or minus five years,” says Barber.
At that point theplanet will be without its icy dome for the first time in eons.
A recent study thatlooked back 1,450 years indicates the current Arctic ice melt hasalready eclipsed the medieval warm period of about 1,000 years ago.
“The level that weare at now is unprecedented over the last 1,450 years,” saysBarber. “And as far as we know we have to go back over a millionyears to find a period when the Arctic was seasonally ice-free in thesummer.”
The Arctic melt isalso happening faster than at any time in the planet’s past, saysBarber, noting that the geological and historical records indicate ittook tens of thousands of years to move to a seasonally-ice-freeArctic in the past.
“Now we are gettingthere in tens of years, not tens of thousands of years,” he says.“And we don’t know how the Earth is going to respond because wehave never seen such a rapid change before.”
Environmentalists andscientists were quick this week to call for cuts in greenhouse gasemissions to slow the global warming that is melting the ice.
James Hansen, aprominent and outspoken NASA climate scientist, said the Arcticmelting shows the risks society is running by failing to limitemissions produced by burning oil, coal and gas.
“The scientificcommunity realizes that we have a planetary emergency,” saidHansen. “It’s hard for the public to recognize this because theystick their head out the window and don’t see that much going on.”
“We can see veryviscerally in the ice how warming temperatures are changing theEarth’s environment,” Walt Meier, of U.S. NSIDC told a mediabriefing this week.
He and otherresearchers say the Arctic melt is just the tip of the iceberg.
Rising globaltemperaturess are also transforming northern ecosystems,melting permafrost and shattering ancient ice shelves. Giant icebergsfrom the disintegrating shelves are now sailing through Canada’sBeaufort Sea, creating a new hazard for oil rigs, says Barber, whoseteam is involved in national and international efforts to get a readon the new Arctic reality and it implications.
Global warming is alsoaltering the oceans. More warm, salty water from the North Atlanticis flowing in the Arctic, and may be helping speed up ice melt.
Another concern isrising sea level. Arctic ice is already in the ocean so does notraise sea level when it melts. But the extra heat being absorbed bythe Arctic Ocean due to the ice loss appears to be acceleratingmelting of the Greenland ice sheet, which does raise sea levels.
The growing expanse ofopen Arctic water, which traps a lot more of the sun’s heatthan reflective ice, is also altering polar storms and winds,says Barber. And this in turn may be linked to the increasinglystrange and extreme weather seen from New Orleans to Newfoundland.
Statistical evidencesuggests the changes in the Arctic are slowing the jet stream andpushing it further south, leading to more “persistent” climatepatterns – be it rain, drought or sunshine, he says. Thechallenge now is to understand the physical mechanism.
”Our society, ourcivilization and how we live our lives – it’s all predicated on astable climate system,” says Barber, who notes that the planet hasundergone abrupt climate change in the past and could do so again.
“The take-homemessage for people is we are running an experiment with Earth’sclimate system,” says Barber, and greenhouse gases are contributingto enormous change – like melting Arctic ice – thatis happening much faster than anticipated.

This is actually thefirst time that I have come across the Erickson Project and I ampleased because it means that serious money is now been spent tocollect DNA reports and samples. The level of infighting andskullduggery is no surprise and I simply wish that folks would keepquiet about it all. Once the glare of publicity is turned up, the BSwill crawl back into the ditch.
The point here is thatactive collection of hair samples is taking place and it is gettingassayed. We are getting feedback.
Unfortunately, I thinkthat the meat sample will turn out to be a giant sloth and must betreated differently. Sasquatches do not drop to all fours but giantsloths do. Bears on the other hand only go erect when in fullconfrontation and certainly do not attempt to travel that way.
So it appears that at thesame time we are collecting a slew of Bigfoot DNA we are also pickingup one excellent sample of plausibly Giant sloth DNA, all of which isgood.

A source has informedme that the Olympic Project submitted ~103 hair samples to Ketchum’sproject, and ~85 of them tested presumptive to Bigfoot by DNA.Another ~18 Olympic Project hair samples were apparently from eitherhumans or known animals. Those 85 successful submissions representanywhere from 5-13 separate creatures.

Since I live inthe province, I can state that unlike the USA, Western Canada has hada rapid return to general liquidity and it is totally reasonable thathe got refinanced and is in fact busily selling lots. - arclein]
Whobailed out Adrian Erickson? Lastfall, Erickson was in deep doodoo financially. He was working 6 daysa week, 12 hours a day trying to keep his real estate business abovewater. He was being sued by several parties, including the buyers ofhis homes. He was under a lot of physical and psychological toll –basically a stress case. His numerous investors were getting upset.
Ericksonbuilt a large real estate development in British Columbia called RubyRidge. He sold a number of lots but then became underwater with theUS recession caused by radical neoliberal capitalism’s unregulatedbanking sector and massive bankster fraud. Thisneoliberalism-generated recession affected the whole world, includingCanada. Erickson was having a hard time selling homes due to thedownturn in the housing market.
Hehad promised buyers are variety of amenities for their lots includingphone and cell coverage, water, sewage lines and roads. With no moremoney coming in, he was unable to provide these amenities. Through nofault of Erickson’s, his lot buyers were left holding the bag.
Healso spent $3 million on his Bigfoot project, the Erickson Project,with no results to show for it yet.
Thingslooked grim. The prospect of bankruptcy for the business andforeclosure on Erickson’s very nice home loomed.
I’mnot divulging too much personal information here as most of this hasalready been reported in the British Columbia press.
Hereit is, 9 months later, and everything has changed. Early in the year,Erickson apparently took his Bigfoot documentary to Hollywood whereit was worked on with post-production editing. In the interim,Erickson’s financial problems seem to have evaporated or at leastgotten much better. The word we have is that financially, things aregoing quite well.
Thisdoes not make sense. The housing market in BC has not returned sincelast fall, so he’s not selling anymore homes than he was then. Howdid he get the money to send the doc to Hollywood to have it workedon? It makes no sense, because at the time it was down there,Erickson was flat broke. How did he get the huge amount of moneyneeded to bail him out of the financial hole? He could not have madeit selling lots. Someone must have bailed him out in some way.

This is actually thefirst time that I have come across the Erickson Project and I ampleased because it means that serious money is now been spent tocollect DNA reports and samples. The level of infighting andskullduggery is no surprise and I simply wish that folks would keepquiet about it all. Once the glare of publicity is turned up, the BSwill crawl back into the ditch.
The point here is thatactive collection of hair samples is taking place and it is gettingassayed. We are getting feedback.
Unfortunately, I thinkthat the meat sample will turn out to be a giant sloth and must betreated differently. Sasquatches do not drop to all fours but giantsloths do. Bears on the other hand only go erect when in fullconfrontation and certainly do not attempt to travel that way.
So it appears that at thesame time we are collecting a slew of Bigfoot DNA we are also pickingup one excellent sample of plausibly Giant sloth DNA, all of which isgood.

Ericksonbuilt a large real estate development in British Columbia called RubyRidge. He sold a number of lots but then became underwater with theUS recession caused by radical neoliberal capitalism’s unregulatedbanking sector and massive bankster fraud. Thisneoliberalism-generated recession affected the whole world, includingCanada. Erickson was having a hard time selling homes due to thedownturn in the housing market.
Hehad promised buyers are variety of amenities for their lots includingphone and cell coverage, water, sewage lines and roads. With no moremoney coming in, he was unable to provide these amenities. Through nofault of Erickson’s, his lot buyers were left holding the bag.
Healso spent $3 million on his Bigfoot project, the Erickson Project,with no results to show for it yet.
Thingslooked grim. The prospect of bankruptcy for the business andforeclosure on Erickson’s very nice home loomed.

Erickson iswell liked, and he is also deeply respected. At the same time, therespect seems tinged with fear. He has sunk $3 million into thisproject, and he is not going to get it back.Onegreat thing to come out of the release of the Erickson Projectresults is that maybe Bigfoot witnesses will not be sopersecuted. Roger Patterson was not an honorable man, but he didshoot a real video of a Bigfoot in California in 1967. He was sohounded by skeptics that they may have driven him to an early grave.

This book is well worth the read as it describes multiple casestudies and tackles a wide range of learning deficits. Yet thirtyyears of practical application still puts this body of empiricism inthe early days of both acceptance and general application.
Listen to what I mean here. It is obvious to tackle the clearlylearning deficient. It is not obvious to evaluate every individualfor learning deficits. What is clear here is that the brainnaturally favors what works best and empowers that against otherskills. Thus application of enhancement protocols are useful foreveryone including the so called smartest.
These enhancement protocols are not onerous so much as timeabsorbing. They need to be worked at in the same way we work toimprove muscle tone and strength.
The work suggests that there are a fair number of target areas thatneed to be attended to. As well the protocols are likely helpful forthose areas already strong. Thuys rthese methods need to come intocommon usage.

Basic math was a mystery. Shecould not fully grasp what she heard or read. She was aself-described klutz beause she wasn't aware of the left side of herbody. She describes her life as being “enveloped in a fog thatnever cleared.”
Arrowsmith-Young'sphenomenal memory and determination got her through school. But shefelt alone — different; stupid, with few friends. At 14, she cuther wrists with a razor blade, hoping to die. Then she woke up andcastigated herself for failing to get even that right.
At 25,Arrowsmith-Young encountered, while in graduate school, the work ofAleksandr Luria, a Russian doctor and psychologist who helpedbrain-damaged soldiers overcome their dysfunction. She also read thework of an American researcher who proved that rats' brainsphysically changed in response to stimulation.
Based on thisresearch, Arrowsmith-Young created flash cards to simulate themovement of a clock's hands. She spent hours on this and otherexercises, persisting until she rewired the parts of her brain thathad not been working.
Arrowsmith-Young's foglifted — for good, she says. She had stumbled across thefoundations of the science of neuroplasticity. That science refutesthe idea that the brain is fixed after a certain age. Essentially,neuroplasticity is the concept that cognitive exercises andexperience can change the brain's very structures — forming newneural pathways at any age.
As Arrowsmith-Youngdescribes, she has for more than 30 years harnessed the ongoingdiscoveries in neuroplasticity to create an educational program toaddress deficits in learning. She now runs the Arrowsmith School inToronto. She has created a program by which children, young peopleand adults can change their own brains, by performing her repetitiveexercises.
Arrowsmith-Youngrecounts the stories of about 30 children and adults who havecorrected learning disabilities by performing her cognitiveexercises, either at her school or other private schools in Canada orthe United States who use her program. It's an exciting and hopefulbook for anyone who has struggled with learning disorders, for theirfamily members or for the educators, social workers, psychologistsand physicians who have tried to help them and have witnessed thetoll these disabilities exact.
The book is alsofrustrating, however. There are children struggling across Canadawith the same deficits that Arrowsmith-Young and all of her studentsfaced. But this science — and these programs, which have beenevaluated — are not available to them. According to the ArrowsmithSchool website, the Toronto Catholic District School Board is theonly public board in Canada that has offered the Arrowsmith program,at four schools. The board's continued use of the program has beencontentious — largely because of cost.
Dr. Norman Doidge is aToronto psychiatrist who has written about both Arrowsmith-Young andneuroplasticity, first in a magazine article and then in TheBrain That Changes Itself (Penguin Books, 2007). He also wrotethe forward to The Woman Who Changed Her Brain. He's clearlybothered that so few people know about Arrowsmith's methods, giventhe need.
Unfortunately, accessis the issue — not just lack of knowledge. The majority of Canadianfamilies can't afford tuition at the private schools where theArrowsmith program is primarily offered. Until this knowledge andthese programs make it into mainstream public schools, children andyouth with learning disabilities will continue to be disadvantaged.

This article pretty wellexpresses my own thoughts on the matter. The margin of victory in 2008 was way too slight and the perfect stormof special circumstances, Obama’s impenetrable bubble and McCain’s weakness asa candidate provided only a slight margin. None of this can be properly recaptured today.
Obama today must totally reenergizehis support to just hold his own while Romney only needs to turn up the heatand maybe not even that.
Of course, lightening couldstrike and something unforeseen will make it work. It is just that these elections consistgetting out the committed voters representing over ninety percent in realityand discouraging the weak ones on the other side. Right now Obama is showing signs of peakingtoo early in any case.
In the meantime, Romney isshowing all signs of holding steady while pressing the attack and not going offmessage regardless of all the free advice running around.
My sense right now is that flubsaside and general silliness that any single event could derail Obama’sCampaign. It may well come on theForeign policy front if it has not already happened with the Al Qaeda assassinationof the Libyan ambassador. That wasinexcusable by the way. If there wasever a post needing a marine security team it is that one.

As much as I do not like it, Barack Obama will be a one-term president.Why? Because his 2008 election win took so much effort, resulted from suchunusual circumstances at a unique time, and cannot be duplicated.

Given all that, Obama should have won easily. He did not. It tookextraordinary, enormous, unprecedented effort to identify, organize, andregister millions of citizens who had never voted before and get them to thepolls to cast that ballot. It was an effort that resulted in the highestpercentage voter turnout in 40 years. And Obama was able to raise and spendmuch more money than McCain.
But, in the course of the campaign, to extract both the funds and thevotes, Obama raised expectations so high for so many that, even in good times,they could not be met.
He has not been able to make real the dreams and aspirations of so manyof his supporters, largely because Republicans have gridlocked almosteverything in Congress, slowing economic recovery, and obstructed dealing withthe national debt. Obama can rightfully complain, but politics is anunforgiving business. This time, there will not be that degree of enthusiasm,that outpouring of emotion, money, and organizational effort.U.S.
Why is Obama doomed?
Three reasons: First, much of the idealism and freshness of the Obamaimage has been lost, and too many of his 2008 supporters have lost heart, andwill just not vote. Others have had their Obama-fostered idealism rubbed off.
Second, the Republicans are four years away from the policies,performance, and problems of George W. Bush. And vice-presidential candidateRyan is a knowledgeable, competent, articulate, serious politician, in starkcontrast to Palin.
But most important, in 2012, is money, which every practical politiciananywhere will tell you, “is the mothers’ milk of politics.” In 2008, McCain didnot have enough. This year, Mitt Romney will have too much, certainly much morethan Obama. The Republicans will almost be embarrassed by the tsunami of cashflooding into their election coffers, and, since court decisions in 2010, thereis now no limit to how much money can be spent by third-party advertisers,specifically Political Action Committees, or Super PACS, of which there are nowabout 220. Of even greater concern is that billionaires are giving millions ofdollars, while the merely rich are donating in never-before-seen amounts. Onevery rich couple, the Sheldon Adelsons had, as of July 1, contributed $38.6million US to various right-wing PACS. The Adelsons say they are prepared tospend $100-million this year to support right-wing candidates

This is not the grassroots fundraising using Facebook and Twitterpopularized by Obama. This is a blatant attempt by a few very wealthy people todrown out the voices and choices of the many. Worse, many of the Super PACS arenot required to disclose the identities of their donors. Former president JimmyCarter estimates that $6 billion will be spent in this U.S. election cycle, anddecries a process he says is “corrupt,” in which the rich foster policies andsupport politicians that will further enrich them.

Obama today must totally reenergizehis support to just hold his own while Romney only needs to turn up the heatand maybe not even that.
Of course, lightening couldstrike and something unforeseen will make it work. It is just that these elections consistgetting out the committed voters representing over ninety percent in realityand discouraging the weak ones on the other side. Right now Obama is showing signs of peakingtoo early in any case.
In the meantime, Romney isshowing all signs of holding steady while pressing the attack and not going offmessage regardless of all the free advice running around.
My sense right now is that flubsaside and general silliness that any single event could derail Obama’sCampaign. It may well come on theForeign policy front if it has not already happened with the Al Qaeda assassinationof the Libyan ambassador. That wasinexcusable by the way. If there wasever a post needing a marine security team it is that one.

As much as I do not like it, Barack Obama will be a one-term president.Why? Because his 2008 election win took so much effort, resulted from suchunusual circumstances at a unique time, and cannot be duplicated.

Given all that, Obama should have won easily. He did not. It tookextraordinary, enormous, unprecedented effort to identify, organize, andregister millions of citizens who had never voted before and get them to thepolls to cast that ballot. It was an effort that resulted in the highestpercentage voter turnout in 40 years. And Obama was able to raise and spendmuch more money than McCain.
But, in the course of the campaign, to extract both the funds and thevotes, Obama raised expectations so high for so many that, even in good times,they could not be met.
He has not been able to make real the dreams and aspirations of so manyof his supporters, largely because Republicans have gridlocked almosteverything in Congress, slowing economic recovery, and obstructed dealing withthe national debt. Obama can rightfully complain, but politics is anunforgiving business. This time, there will not be that degree of enthusiasm,that outpouring of emotion, money, and organizational effort.
Why is Obama doomed?
Three reasons: First, much of the idealism and freshness of the Obamaimage has been lost, and too many of his 2008 supporters have lost heart, andwill just not vote. Others have had their Obama-fostered idealism rubbed off.
Second, the Republicans are four years away from the policies,performance, and problems of George W. Bush. And vice-presidential candidateRyan is a knowledgeable, competent, articulate, serious politician, in starkcontrast to Palin.
But most important, in 2012, is money, which every practical politiciananywhere will tell you, “is the mothers’ milk of politics.” In 2008, McCain didnot have enough. This year, Mitt Romney will have too much, certainly much morethan Obama. The Republicans will almost be embarrassed by the tsunami of cashflooding into their election coffers, and, since court decisions in 2010, thereis now no limit to how much money can be spent by third-party advertisers,specifically Political Action Committees, or Super PACS, of which there are nowabout 220. Of even greater concern is that billionaires are giving millions ofdollars, while the merely rich are donating in never-before-seen amounts. Onevery rich couple, the Sheldon Adelsons had, as of July 1, contributed $38.6million US to various right-wing PACS. The Adelsons say they are prepared tospend $100-million this year to support right-wing candidates

Iran continues to challenge but that is the one special case needing attention as isPakistan . Both have annoyed and have paid a price forthat. China is on the verge of regimechange and that promises to be actually beneficial. Iran needs regime change that isbeneficial. Pakistan needs a regime that gets back to the basics of good governance simply becauseits rival India is now pulling ahead with a vengeance.
The best that theUSA may be ableto achieve is to be encouraging and that may be good enough. Remember that the weight of history is on theside of the West and it is now overwhelming and happening rapidly. All the turmoil is merely governments andcultures coming to grips with this and discovering how to adjust. Remember Japan and Germany . No one wishes to emulate their glowingexample by getting forced to do the right thing at gun point. And yes, today the USA isnow a small part of the modern world even if everyone else is quite happy tostick them with the bill for preserving perpetual military superiority.
