Ihave known for some time that a number of DNA samples existed and that work wasunderway.  This is the first formalannouncement and it was precipitated by earlier comments made by acollaborator.  This is extremelyimpressive.
What is startling is how recentthe critical mating took place.  Itappears to have coincided with the advent of modern humanity in North America.  Andyes this does beg the question of just what the novel hominid was.
I would be happier tracing itback to Central Asia where we have strangehominids.  In the meantime, this is the ultimatebeauty and the beast tale.
The big story right now is thatwe now have extraordinary proof that the creature exists and that debate istotally over.  You simply cannot fakethis.  The drive is now on in earnest tomake contact and to study these creatures. It should also be a little safer than mountain gorillas.
I must admit to been totallysurprised at the recent hybridization. There were hints of that in the mass of reports but nothing certain orparticularly convincing.  I certainlywould never have predicted any of it.
What it does means is that theone report of direct use of our language is how completely plausible.  It can happen.
It also means that establishing communicationwith one family will open the door to all of them.  From that point on they can become ourpartners in the forests.
These creatures are truly our cousins.
In advancing alternative history,I have argued that modern humanity was specifically engineered about 15000years ago to terraform Earth.  They werethen landed in colonies at least 10,000 years ago as per Noah.  Thus there is conforming evidence that thiswas no accidental mating that took once. It makes much sense to have a species of man able to work the forest inthis new Terra.

Five-Year Genome Study Yields Evidence of Homo sapiens/Unknown HomininHybrid Species in North America

DALLAS, Nov. 24--A team of scientists can verify that their 5-yearlong DNA study, currently under peer-review, confirms the existence of anovel hominin hybrid species, commonly called “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch,”living in North America. Researchers’extensive DNA sequencing suggests that the legendary Sasquatch is a humanrelative that arose approximately15,000 years ago as a hybrid cross of modern Homo sapiens with an unknownprimate species.

The study was conducted by a team of experts ingenetics, forensics, imaging and pathology, led by Dr. Melba S. Ketchum of Nacogdoches, TX.In response to recent interest in the study, Dr. Ketchum can confirm that herteam has sequenced 3 complete Sasquatch nuclear genomes and determined thespecies is a human hybrid:

“Our study has sequenced 20 whole mitochondrialgenomes and utilized next generation sequencing to obtain 3 whole nucleargenomes from purported Sasquatch samples. The genome sequencing shows that Sasquatch mtDNA is identical to modern Homo sapiens, but SasquatchnuDNA is a novel, unknown hominin related to Homo sapiens and other primatespecies. Our data indicate that the North American Sasquatch is a hybridspecies, the result of males of an unknown hominin species crossing with femaleHomo sapiens.

Hominins are members of the taxonomic groupingHominini, which includes all members of the genus Homo. Genetic testing hasalready ruled out Homo neanderthalis and the Denisova hominin as contributorsto Sasquatch mtDNA or nuDNA. “The male progenitor that contributed the unknownsequence to this hybrid is unique as its DNA is more distantly removed fromhumans than other recently discovered hominins like the Denisovanindividual,” explains Ketchum.

“Sasquatch nuclear DNA is incredibly novel and notat all what we had expected. While it has human nuclear DNA within its genome,there are also distinctly non-human, non-archaic hominin, and non-ape sequences.We describe it as a mosaic of human and novel non-human sequence. Further studyis needed and is ongoing to better characterize and understand Sasquatchnuclear DNA.”

Ketchum is a veterinarian whose professional experienceincludes 27 years of research in genetics, including forensics. Early in hercareer she also practiced veterinary medicine, and she has previously been publishedas a participant in mapping the equine genome. She began testing the DNA ofpurported Sasquatch hair samples 5 years ago.

Ketchum calls on public officials and law enforcementto immediately recognize the Sasquatch as an indigenous people:

“Genetically, the Sasquatch are a human hybrid withunambiguously modern human maternal ancestry. Government at all levels mustrecognize them as an indigenous people and immediately protect their human andConstitutional rights against those who would see in their physical andcultural differences a ‘license’ to hunt, trap, or kill them.”
