SAV001-H is currentlythe only drug for HIV/AIDS under development in Canada and a recentreport has revealed that human clinical trials for testing the samepreventative vaccine have been completely successful.
Researchers from theUniversity of Western Ontario have developed the drug, which has beenreported to show no adverse effects in the trials. The first humantrial had been conducted in March with the consent of the U. S. Foodand Drug Administration.
It has been told that18 to 50 men and women, who had been recruited for the same, realizedno side-effects. An injection of SAV001-H was given to them and tilldate, no adverse consequences have been reported.
The drug is beingsupported by Sumagen Canada, which is responsible for the managementof clinical development of the vaccine. The same has also beenreported to have caused no increase in the formations of the HIV-1antibody in a few patients.
The findings haveboosted the team's hope to see success of the final stage trials,which would eventually mean the introduction of the firstcommercialized HIV vaccine. "I have no doubt about Phase 2.Phase 3 - God only knows", Dr. Chil-Yong Kang was quoted assaying.
